I believe that everything starts from a thought and then it needs growth or influences to convince yourself to do something whatever that something may be.
The beginning of the 4 points journey was very different to the way we finished that journey.
The car crash got me good, add on the stroke that I’d already sustained = me walking extremely slowly.
People who haven’t walked beside me, haven’t learnt my story, not taken the TIME to listen, they sometimes look right past me. Best example, in Townsville a person was asking all these questions from my Mum about the 4 points ride, not directly looking or talking to me, it was as if I was a fictional character.
This is where I feel society is getting it wrong, taking the pity, sympathy, objectifying approach instead of learning, listening, empathising with the individual’s story and NOT setting expectations of what a person with a disability is capable of right from the gecko 😂
It’s all assumption and preconceptions.
That was one of the many reasons why I was doing the 4 points ride and now ‘Takin on Tassie’ - The 3 Points..
It’s not a question of are you independent or dependent, it’s more the question of how do we do this, TOGETHER!
Ps I am a hell of a lot better rider than I am a walker!

It took 3+ years in the making, 189 riding days, 9889kms covered and a crash in the middle, but we did it!!

Better late than never, that’s what they say right?!
Last Saturday we had the 3 points fundraiser, it went off with a bang and a hoot!!
Great times with friends, family and people who came to support!
We managed to raise over 5k and we couldn’t have done it without the support of the local business far and wide!
It’s just truly amazing what we human individuals are able to achieve together!

Suffering the stroke, I had to relearn how to talk, speak, write and singing was the answer for my. It was something I actually enjoyed in the hospital as opposed to speech therapy, all I could do at that point was make siren noises… then further down the track, working with music therapists to learn to write lyrics , rap and sing. I’m certainly no @adele but I’m pretty proud of where I’ve got to thanks to @mattriks. And now it’s an outlet, a way to express myself more than ever before. This song is about the crash and how I felt about the court case..

All the emotions rolled into a journey, from start to finish.
The first image is hard to listen to and I’ll be really honest here I’m not the same as I was before the crash versus after. (mentally and physically) and yes I do have some regrets on doing the ride. But it was a decision, that I’ve got to live with.
Life moves on and I need to adapt with it.
If it wasn’t for my support crew I don’t think I could have managed much… let alone completing the ride.
I’m proud of myself for completing the ride and what’s ahead (noting that ‘ahead’ wasn’t all rainbows) and I’m grateful for having special people in my life.
A year in reflection.
