Week Seven

Training:

It’s been a tough week, my hips are still quite sore from the 508m of elevation one-hit go (3hr) on Wednesday… that kind of laid me out for the rest of the week.  Also I’ve been concentrating on my core in the gym, I did  three sessions last week. I’ve had to take positives out of it even though I fell well below the bench-mark.. (a flatty didn’t help on Friday).

I HAVE to keep moving forwards!  So I will restructure again and be a bit more specific about it.  2 x 500m of elevation in one go this week as well as 2-3 sessions in the gym concentrating with core and lower back

So what's been happening in the past week?

I have two or three things in the works.  Top-secret so I can't give too much away, all I can say is, it's a story, a podcast and a fundraiser…

I can say that I had a coffee with Paula and Stephen from the Stroke Association and they were very supportive.  They’d love to help raise awareness with me.   They will do this by getting the story out there through social media!

And finally we had a fantastic ‘lecture’ from Damian at Flemington Cycles.  He gave us great advice, instructions as to how and what we need to service the trike and bikes.  He had a lot of general  knowledge, info and useful tips.  We are very grateful to him for giving up his Sunday to help us.  So please support his business if you can.

Mission not complete, week 5

Just a quick one on the past week.

It was hard to find the mojo and I fell short by approximately 300m of elevation. That being said it was pretty solid and much the same as week 3 so am not really complaining, as long as I’m not slipping I’ll take it as a plus!

This week I’m leaving everything the same. Well, I’ve added one hour on to the total time (14) spent on the bike, but really there’s nothing like elevation, nothing at all…. So this week, 4 solid days of riding - luckily the weather is meant to be good. 14hrs, 1750m of elevation and 110km’s plus, that is the plan. I’ll tell you how i feel after it!

On other news, I’m getting ever so close to getting the merch up and running… Today nearly killed me though, 4 hours on the one problem… i think anyone would throw the laptop!

Anyway i’d say it’s a week away and then we will be good to go. Get your wallets ready!

When are we heading Northwest?

Update on when we leave to head way out West (Steep Point, 251kms west of Monkey Mia).

We will leave from Melbourne around the 4-5th of July to get to the most western point of the continent we live in around about 30 July.

The reason why we are travelling the 4200km stretch at such a relatively slow pace is so we can trial what works and what doesn't in the ‘routine’ and also I will get to maintain my fitness. Maybe also we will get to set up some extra “chat” sessions along the way.

Now touching on the Training Talk, I've slightly slipped with regards to week 4’s training so I'm going to take it as a ‘maintenance week’, I've only managed 1200m of elevation…. Still, it's more than week 2 so cannot complain.

I rode down to Williamstown on Friday, it was into a slight headwind but even so, I was absolutely flying, the fastest I've been riding since the Great Vic Bike Ride - 14.1kms/hr!!  So happy.

Anyway, the reason I rode down there was to trial riding on the sand with the aid of either matting, flywire and/or meshing to see which worked best to get traction on the beach.
With the single wheel at the back of the trike and my weight it digs in pretty easily even with the tyre pressure down.  We found the best was flywire but also it does help going on an angle up the hill. It will still be bloody hard yakka to get up and over the sand dunes but with these tricks in mind it may be an achievable goal!

Lastly, Series 2 of social inclusion is well underway so stay tuned for it, it'll be hitting your screen in a week or so!
